Hydrogen specialist and mobility provider KEYOU and HDI Global, a globalindustrial insurer based in Hanover, Germany, will be working closely togetherin the future. HDI has developed a customized insurance solution for the Munich-basedcompany and its new "H2 Mobility as a Service" (H2MaaS) model, whichwill provide fleet operators with comprehensive insurance coverage. This is anintegral part of KEYOU's "all-round carefree package”, which is offered tologistics and forwarding companies in a pay-per-use model.
KEYOU and HDI Global share their belief thathydrogen engines for heavy-duty vehicles are not only an innovative, but alsoan economical and efficient alternative for the mobility transition. Therefore,HDI provides a tailor-made insurance solution for the hydrogen expert'sinnovative H2MaaS model, which is included in the kilometer flat ratecalculated on the basis of the annual mileage. In addition to the CO2-freevehicle with the KEYOU-inside hydrogen engine and the insurance, the solutionalso includes a service and maintenance package and, if required, the hydrogenitself. The solution is designed to enable fleet operators to make asustainable transition to zero-emission alternative powertrain technologieswith as little risk as possible.
KEYOU and HDI Global - on the same wavelength right from the start
In its mission to be a reliable partner to global industry in times ofubiquitous change, HDI Global is constantly on the lookout for partners withinnovative products or business models that can be supported by speciallydeveloped insurance solutions. To keep abreast of innovative technologies, themotor risk engineers at HDI Risk Consulting (HRC) regularly visit trade fairs,and it was during a visit to the IAA in Hanover that they first became aware ofKEYOU. The Munich-based company's H2MaaS model immediately caught the experts'attention: "The idea of converting existing vehicles to run on hydrogenand renting them out to fleet operators as part of a comprehensive pay-per-usemodel excited us right from the start," explains Matthias Rumpf, RiskEngineer at HRC.
"We are pleased to have gained another innovative partner in KEYOUand to be able to further expand our business activities in the clean mobilitysegment," says Stefan Daubinger, Key Account Manager at HDI Global inMunich. "The challenge for us was to develop a completely new insuranceproduct. After all, there was no previous experience with H2 engine-poweredtrucks," Daubinger continues.

KEYOU's mission is to provide its customers with a convenient CO2-freemobility solution with short refueling times, a robust engine, and long rangesthat are as close as possible to conventional diesel standards and therefore donot require a long implementation and transition period. With its H2MaaS model,the company offers fleet operators the highest level of predictability and costcertainty, making it easier for them to switch to the zero-emissionsalternative. HDI Global's tailor-made fully comprehensive insurance is theperfect complement to the “all-round carefree package”.

The first KEYOU 18t trucks will be operated bymid-sized logistics companies EP Trans and RKI who will use the CO2-freevehicles in daily operations for two of the world's leading steel producers.Other pioneering vehicles and customers will follow in 2024, while the firstdelivery of converted 40-ton trucks with hydrogen engines is planned for 2025.
