Munich, April 15, 2025 - Cost-efficient decarbonization of the company's truck fleet with long ranges, short refueling times and proven suitability for everyday use: What still sounds like a long way off for many logistics companies will soon be put into practice by Rein Spedition. The family-owned company, based in Saarlouis, Germany, will be expanding its fleet with one of KEYOU's popular 18-ton trucks with a hydrogen engine. The plan is to operate the truck on existing routes in Saarland where Rein Spedition has been using diesel trucks to serve customers.

Rein Spedition: Future-proofing with CO2-free transportation

In the almost 90 years of its existence, the family-run Rein Spedition has grown from a small forwarding company to a transportation specialist with around 400 employees and 12 locations in Saarland, Rhineland-Palatinate, Baden-Württemberg and North Rhine-Westphalia. The company has always focused on a future-oriented approach: "We attach great importance to always offering our customers the best services and a wide range of solutions. This also includes observing current trends and reacting to corresponding developments at an early stage," explains Marco Eglseder, Managing Partner of Nikolaus Rein GmbH. "In recent years, we have increasingly noticed that more and more customers attach importance to CO2-free transportation. Naturally, we want to meet this demand. We see great potential in KEYOU's approach of converting existing diesel engines to hydrogen combustion engines due to the cost efficiency, short refueling times and long ranges associated with this technology. In this way, we can not only meet the growing sustainability requirements of our customers, but also our own high efficiency standards," Eglseder continues.

Smooth transition thanks to KEYOU's "H2 Mobilityas a Service" approach

Rein Spedition was ultimately convinced by KEYOU's H2MaaS approach, which enables its customers to switch to the new propulsion technology as easily, predictably and risk-free as possible. The Munich-based hydrogen specialist is not only focusing on converting and selling its vehicles, but also on an all-around carefree mobility solution for fleet operators. In addition to the KEYOU truck with zero-emission hydrogen engine, KEYOU customers can also count on fully comprehensive insurance coverage and a comprehensive service and maintenance package, and can even purchase fuel from KEYOU partners if required. The aim is to ensure that customers receive everything they need for the smooth operation of their hydrogen vehicle from a single source. The vehicle itself is classified as a zero-emission vehicle according to EU standards, even without expensive exhaust gas after-treatment, and is therefore officially exempt from truck tolls.

KEYOU's H2 truck will be used on the company's existing diesel routes in Saarland, and the 18-ton truck will be refueled at the H2 Mobility station in Saarbrücken. "We are delighted to be one of the first companies to integrate one of KEYOU's H2 trucks into our fleet and, thanks to the pay-per-use offer, to be able to put it into operation easily and without a lot of preparatory work," says Eglseder. KEYOU is also very pleased with the new pioneer customer: "With Rein Spedition, we have gained another future-oriented company with well-known end customers for our pioneer program," says Pedro Bravo, Chief Sales Officer at KEYOU. "Together with Rein, we are taking another step towards decarbonizing heavy-duty transport and establishing the hydrogen engine as an efficient alternative to diesel".
